Primary
Primary is the first dedicated, permanent artist studios in Nottingham, to support the development and production of contemporary visual art in the city. Its mission is to operate high quality, secure and affordable studios with associated exhibition and events space, which will support artists and provide an integral public interface.
Having secured a thirty-year lease for the former Douglas Primary school site in Nottingham, work was underway to transform the 2000m2 building into a social and cultural resource for the city. Primary has been developed by Nottingham Studios Ltd., a charity formed through artist-led initiatives focused on studio provision for the city. The project achieved funding from Arts Council England and the Foyle Foundation to invest in the building and create high quality artist studios, with the aspiration being to create a different level of studio provision for artists in Nottingham, rather than replace existing studio buildings in the city.
